For almost a decade now every trip I make to Southern California, dining at Gyu-Kaku is a must. This place is a reminder of my youth but it’s also about loyalty. LOYALTY these days is under-appreciated and underrated. People forget of how they got where they are now and tend to choose money and fame over friendships.
I was invited by Bear (Shoyoroll), if I ever come thru Los Angeles again, come by and visit their HQ, I near lost it. Shoyoroll Brand is a figurehead in Jiu-Jitsu community and getting an invite was an honor and I couldn’t pass up an opportunity so I brought Nick (Eastside) and Peter (BeastMode) along for the ride.
We were able to train at Conde Koma BJJ for a little bit with Justin and Phi. Big shout to the Conde Koma peeps, it was a pleasure to be able to train with you guys.
After training we finally got to visit SYR (Shoyoroll) and let me tell you, Eastside was in heaven. It’s impressive that people wait in lines for hours just to be able to get a hands of them GI’s! Because it’s not really about the GI’s, is it? It’s about the community and camaraderie that comes with the brand association. SYR have been supporting Jiu-Jitsu before you knew what Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was, before your favorite black belt was a black belt, since the 90’s. (no pun intended)
